Life of Barry

Barry and Terry

Barry has hooked us up someone to do the motion graphics for our next video...nah, in our dreams. Barry met the legendary artist, director and writer Terry Gilliam yesterday, lucky so and so.

(just think about how many different titles we could have used for this news entry...!)

Lost Footage

(0.6MB, quicktime)

We've been cleaning out and archiving all the 'Into the Fall' files on the computer and a few clips of footage that somehow slipped through the cracks have been found. Somehow they went missing during the edit until now so we'll be posting a trick up now and again so they finally get to be seen...

The Winter Retreat

(8.4MB, quicktime)

During the Winter of 2005/2006 the weather got so bleak we ended up looking for some dry space to skate as the rain and cold passed over until the Spring would arrive again. Steve had spied a place with potential and one Sunday we decided to make the trip over and see what we could put together. The warehouse had some old wood and we found a filing cabinet in the bushes outside and with a bunch of teamwork before long a kicker to high ledge was getting skated. Sandy, Gonz and Russ then put together a ledge from an old shelf unit, desktops and a wiring conduit cover which turned out to be absolutely perfect. Within a couple of Sundays the place was pretty much set up with a new wallride, the ledge and the kicker ledge getting sessioned heavily until the sun set (no electricity). Soon the spring did finally arrive, as it always does eventually, and the warehouse was left get back to its weeds and broken glass. During our time at the TF Russ filmed a load of footage. Some clips made it to the final cut of 'Into the Fall' and we were going to put together an extra of all the TF footage but never had the time, until now.

Veran

Today is Veran's 18th Birthday, you are now officially a man (grrr, *flex*)! Happy birthday Vezington Esq from all of us, most of which only have vague memories of their own 18ths back in the dawn of time...things like fighting woolly mammoths, crossing the Bering Straight by foot, you know, stuff like that...

Up in the Sunshine...

Si and Kev

Saturday was baking hot but that didn't put off friends of the network Kevin Parrott, Tom Ball and Si Skipp making the drive up the A12 to Colchester to join up for a trip around the local street spots with Gonz, Veran and Ollie. First up was Royal London Banks, then a few more Colchester spots before off to Wivenhoe. Kev filmed a bunch of stuff for a project he's working on and everyone had a super fun skate. A reciprocal visit is on the cards...

Art Workshop

(24.2MB, quicktime)

Last Monday (10th July) Dave had an art workshop at the college on North Hill. As well as getting the students to participate in collectively painting three large boards Dave (and Ollie) began painting a large white cube/monolith that is going to be a permenant feature. Apart from when Cagney and Lacey turned up the afternoon worked out really well.

Old 'Into the Fall' Teaser

(0.3MB, quicktime)

Some spring cleaning on the old death star now that 'Into the Fall' is done and dusted has resulted in finding this little clip, a short teaser for 'Into the Fall' that was made to demonstrate the general aesthetic of the then forthcoming video. It was never used for anything apart from passing ideas between Gonz and Russ in the final weeks before editing started.

Editied in April 2006 by Gonz.

Pink 3

(9.5MB, quicktime)

Filmed on a wet, cold winter's night in late 2002 at Lakeside at the legendary pink zone level 3, the pink 3. Nothing beats a super smooth surface and a waxed curb/manual pad and some friends making the most of one of the few decent dry spots in Essex. That night the carpark was closed and we got kicked out of the one opposite by a security guard. We asked him if they could turn on the lights in Pink 3 for us to skate and as a complete suprise he said yes they would turn on a couple of strips of lighting. Probably the best security guard ever.

Skating by Dan Jacka, Russ Cowling and Paul Gonella. Filmed and Edited by Paul Gonella. Music is 'The American Adventure' by The Electric Soft Parade.

Sweden Premiere

Russ was away this week in Sweden helping MN close friends The Harmony film for their next visual epic due out early next year. Whilst there he treated the crew to an 'Into The Fall' premiere swedish style! Think they liked it, especially Danijel Todorovic who can be seen disecting Royal London banks in Veran's section. 'Wasting Time' in Southsea

Wasting Time Launch Party Poster

Down in Southsea the creative workhorse that is Smooth Mike (also one half of Go Human) has been compiling a book of his photography taken between the early to the late 90s. The book oozes quality in it's construction, layout and content which focuses on the skateboarding and friendship of the southsea skate crew back then, all from Mike's own personal perspective behind his lens. The book is incredible, see a few photos from an advance copy below for just a glance at how good it is. The launch party for the book is on the 24th of this month in Southsea which should be a classic Southsea booze up of cold drinks in the warm evening by the sea. Will be seeing you down there for that. The book should be available from Gaz at Bored not long after the launch. Bored has been southsea's finest SOS skateshop for nigh on a decade now, but just don't think you can take on the discount calculator of doom...you will fail!

Ipswich taken out by South Woodham

Back in the last few weeks of filming for 'Into the Fall' we hooked up with some of South Woodham's finest, Neil Smith and Reese Westlake, in Ipswich for a day skating loads of spots old and new. The footage fruits of Neil's labour are in the video for all to see, awesome stuff. One thing you didn't see in the video was the super close nollie heelflip attempt down the theatre stairs...blimey. those stairs are a touch on the fucking massive side. Gonz took a few photos that day too...

p.s. Reese came second place at the Crossfire Southbank best trick comp the other weekend, pop shove-it late flip...mental, good work fella
